Earl Graham - A Canadian Artist
To view the full collection please visit the gallery.
Earl Graham is a contemporary and a realist artist whose passion for life and art are vividly seen in his colourful canvases. Painting real life and using photographs enable him to capture the true effects of colour in sunlight, shade and structure. By experimenting with his palette, Earl intensifies the mood and subject in his work and challenges viewers to look closer at colours seen versus what is perceived.
Earl studied and learned from the works of old masters. He is self-taught and has had workshops with professors of the University of Manitoba. Today he lives and is retired in Dauphin, Manitoba.
Earl probes the corners of individual's worlds. Architecture with history, faces with great caricature, landscape that stops you in your tracks. They represent fragments of a lifetime that are tied to a broader universally shared humanity.
Painting special objects, a great old structure and the face of someone special, heightens the emotional charge and sensual depth of Earl's work. "I feel that the emotion that the subject conveys is almost as important to the creative process as the proper use of colour and structure", says the artist.
He has participated in jury and small group shows throughout Manitoba, Saskatchewan and the USA and he has won several awards. His paintings are in private collections in Dauphin and Winnipeg, Manitoba, Regina, Saskatchewan, Kelowna and Richmond, B.C., Ottawa, Ontario, Calgary, Alberta and Antwerp, Belgium, as well as the USA.
